During this time “Youth everywhere began sporting his slicked back 'duck tail' hair style and long sideburns (Skwirk, 2015)” which was influenced by Elvis Presley. During the 1980s punk rock was introduced which heavily influenced the fashion scene. Punk Rock music was popular between the ages of 18-22 with most people wearing “multi-coloured Mohawks, ripped skinny jeans, worn band tee-shirts, and denim or leather jackets (Wikimedia, 2015).” This style in particular was influenced by the Sex Pistols, Guns ‘n’ Roses and other influential rock bands such as Midnight Oil and Nirvana.
A popular clothing style during this time was the idea of attaching “random bits of fabric and attach them to their other clothes with safety pins. This soon became a popular way of attaching clothing, and it is now known as "pin shirts" with young women (Wikimedia, 2015).” Another common style worn was “buzzed hair, T-shirts, jeans and button up shirts (Wikimedia, 2015).” The Teenage Rebellion has greatly influenced fashion and by doing this it has helped to create Australia’s Modern identity. |
